Since 1971, Premier Academy has provided high-quality, affordable childcare to children in metro Atlanta.

History / Mission / Vision

History

Premier Academy was organized as a research and demonstration project by a concerned group of parents in the Bedford Pine/Donner Project community in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward in 1971. The aim of the parents was to bring high-quality, affordable childcare to low-income residents in the Old Fourth Ward.

In 1973, Premier Academy was incorporated as a non-profit organization, ensuring all children, regardless of their socio-economic background, would have access to childcare and education at its center.

In 1977, Premier Academy appointed its first Board of Directors comprised of community and business leaders (the board was previously comprised of parent volunteers). Under the new leadership team, fundraising began for the construction of the new facility, Angier Avenue. Premier Academy opened the doors to Angier Avenue in 1981.

In 1996, Premier Academy appointed a new Executive Director, Cindra Taylor, the second in its history. This year also marked the shift towards focused strategic planning and creating long-term sustainability for the organization. Through a collaboration with Early Learning Project Management, Premier Academy opened the Minnie Howell location, its current headquarters.

After more than 40 years in the Bedford Pine community, Premier Academy had the opportunity to relocate to its newest facility, Renaissance, in 2018.

Today, Premier Academy serves nearly 500 children each year at its two locations.
